Dr. Philip Bourne leads the School of Data Science. He joined in May 2017 from National Institutes of Health where he was the first Associate Director for Data Science.

Dr. Donald Brown, a professor in the Department of Systems and Information Engineering became the founding director of Data Science Institute when it launched in 2013.

Dr. Rafael Alvarado is currently Research Faculty at UVA’s School of Data Science, where he teaches and conducts research on cultural analytics.

Jonathan Kropko is an Assistant Professor who joined the School of Data Science in August 2019. Before coming aboard with SDS, Jon was a faculty member with the University of Virginia’s Politics department, and he has worked with the University since 2013.
Luis Felipe Rosado Murillo

Luis Felipe R. Murillo came to data science through anthropology. He began his career concentrating his research around science and technology, specifically in the investigation of computing from an anthropological perspective.
